About Us
We are a non-profit organisation that aims to promote greater connectivity, knowledge exchange and support between and for early career environmentalists in the Western Indian Ocean and small island developing states.
BlueLinks aims to grow a chain of leg-up support whereby as members progress with their careers they begin to reach down and support others.
By doing so we hope to strengthen the existing capacity in ocean and island management, conservation, communication and governance in the region.
Build Connections
A platform for early career environmentalists from SIDS to have greater access to international opportunities and allow those with opportunities or resources to find suitable candidates for example for specific Masters or PhD scholarships and other training courses.
Mentorship
A mentorship service is provided voluntarily by a team of ‘career councilors’ to Blue Links fellows either on a 1-on-1 or group basis. These sessions can be anything from informal chats, discussions about career development, overcoming barriers/challenges, developing skills such as project proposal writing, CV development, statistical analysis support, development of critical thinking and guest lectures.
Link opportunities with people
A platform to promote and develop opportunities for fellows including further education, speaking events, jobs and travel by showcasing their talent and passions to groups and organisations who wish to provide opportunities or resources to support ocean and island research and conservation.
Our
Story
Why we started BlueLinks...
BlueLinks was founded by Sheena, April and Jeremy who first worked together on an ambitious project to clean Aldabra Atoll in Seychelles of marine plastic pollution. Since then they have worked on numerous science and conservation endeavors and developed a strong team. They conceived the idea of BlueLinks from their numerous experiences both of being mentored and mentoring others.
